Meet F-Star

Trish Hurley

VP Regulatory Affairs & Clinical Operations

Which Cambridge do you work from and how long have you been with F-star?

I joined F-star in January 2020 based at our Cambridge, UK office.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I was born and educated in Dublin, Ireland and have been working in the UK for more than 23 years but will always refer to Ireland as my “home, home” (Irish readers will understand this term!)

What is a typical day like for you at F-star?

Heading up regulatory affairs and clinical operations in a biotech of F-star’s size, with 4 assets in clinic, my days are varied and very busy ensuring all our clinical trials are executed in line with our overarching strategic plans and regulatory expectations.

How would you describe the F-star culture?

Having spent the past 12+ years in the fast-paced regulatory product development consulting/clinical CRO world, I feel very much at home here at F-star! We are a nimble, agile team, passionate about our objectives as a biotech. We roll up our sleeves, we get things done. We operate as one unit, everyone rowing in the same direction, laser focused on our common goal to bring new options to advanced cancer patients.

Who had the greatest influence on you in your career?

There are a few. Firstly, my parents; they gave me the wings to fly and continue to inspire me daily. Our family mantra has always been: if you set out to do anything you give it 100% or don’t do it at all! The second is a close family friend, Dr. TJ Eliott, who is sadly no longer with us. He sparked my interest and continued passion in the medical field from a very young age. I recall telling him one day in my youth that I was going to find the cure cancer (ambitious…I know!)

What are your favourite hobbies?

I love travelling. I also enjoy most sports; especially gymnastics and rugby (Leinster and Ireland, of course!). Not too many people know that I was a member of the Irish Gymnastics Squad from aged 6 into my teens, captaining my club team, Mount Temple, to many national championship wins. I have a keen interest all aspects of psychology. My sister, Olivia, is one of Ireland’s leading Sport Psychologists so we are all about goal setting and “Brave Action”.
